The mistake you made was believeing what Inno said.
A chance of 25% is an estimate of how many times you will win. So out of 1000 tries, the probable win is 250. It is not definite, just a probability.
If probability was a definite measure, then there would be no gambling or casinos.

@RiotzMakhai won 1/15 which works out as approximately 7%. That's just bad luck. Someone else could win 15/15 or 100%. It's how probability works.

I see the EPL Event Guide got moved to the Beta thread - which many do not visit.

It is live now, not in Beta - so here it is again!
All the quests have been verified by members of my group who finished the event already.

I'm on quest 86 and with 16 days left of the event have just worked out that I'm going to be about 2500 nuts short of the third grand prize yet again, having used the 140 spin throughout. :(

Yep. that's the way they do it... The third grand prize is only for people spending a lot of diamonds. It was the same with the sugarbeet task.

Apparently you have a 1% chance of doing it without diamonds.... I guess that means there's about a one in a hundred chance that you will land on enough free nuts prizes to make up the difference.... personally I think 1% sounds optimistic, but I haven't done the maths.

You know what's worse about it... The third grand prize isn't even that good. It gives less population per square than a standard house.

A couple of these tasks are very expensive on time.

a). 24 hour tasks, which can only be speeded up if you have fortunately received speed bonuses.

b). 20 epics, is far too hefty an expectation. This would be fine if I hadn't progressed so far in achieving provinces.

The x2 sprouts offer today has helped me somewhat getting 5x 140 spins for the price of one winning nuts, and gaining 200 sprouts means I now need 380 sprouts for the 3rd prize.

A fellowship member has enough nuts saved to get the grand prize now with this offer and we wondered whether you can still spin for daily prizes if you get the 3rd grand prize.

I've amused myself with this maths problem, trying to ascertain the number of sprouts that a player is likely to get versus what is needed to unlock all three grand prizes.

For the purposes of this calculation we are assuming a player who has completed all the sequential quests and has completed all of the daily quests. We are also assuming the player is always opening the 140 nut nutshell.

There are two other main assumptions I have made. The first is that 1 nut per hour is going to fall on the outskirts of the city and all those will be collected over 25 days. For the sake of putting something into the calculation I have assumed that every 5th nut appearing will be x2 and every 10th nut will be x3. The last assumption is that none of the nutshells are being opened on days when extra sprouts are being offered. I realise that this could change everything, but it's perhaps hit and miss as I, for one, haven't been given the offer that m4rt1n mentions above.

So... we have the following:-

3,571 nuts collected from sequential quests
875 nuts collected from daily quests
840 nuts collected from the city outskirts

5,286 total nuts collected

37.757 large nutshells opened initially

From here it gets a little more complicated as I've had to factor in a 13% chance of getting 140 free nuts with each roll and a 7% chance of getting 200 free nuts.

If we add in these extra nuts, plus also the extra nuts from the extra rolls, etc, etc, etc, we end up with:-

49.003 large nutshells opened and therefore a total of 980.073 sprouts gained.

To win the grand prize would take 1,450 sprouts so this, of course, leaves us short by 469.926 sprouts.

Working the same calculations back the other way, this means that we are short by a total of 2,530 nuts.

To put it another way, probability suggests that we will get the second grand prize for free, but the third grand prize will, on average cost 10,550 diamonds. In the UK this means that the third grand prize comes at a cost of £74.99.

The main point that I am trying to make having really wasted a lot of time over this (haha), is that if a building is being offered that we have to pay £75 to get, could they not at least make it really, really attractive? i.e. the population offered should surely be way above what a standard residence gives, not in fact less.

This might have been the case for the past events, but this event you can get 3rd prize for free using double spring days. Some guys on us server already done that so it's 100% possible.
Of course, double spring days are not on the days the best daily buildings are, so you have to choose what do you want more. But I think the more choices we have to make the better, it makes the game funnier :) And it's still a huge improvement over the last events.

24 hour tasks
You can build some lvl 1 factories | workshops for this and set them in advance. When done, disconnect the road, so you don't collect them accidentally till needed.
And I will go and assume you mean relics? These can be very easily gained in Tournaments. There are 4 of them running within the duration of the event.

Yes, I concede this point, but the only one I have noticed was the one right at the start. I didn't get the one yesterday that m4rt1n said he had.

In either case, as you say, you need to pick what is more important and if it wasn't happening on a day that I not only wanted the daily prize, but that I wanted several of the daily prizes, there would be no point to it because they haven't made that top prize even an attractive option. If that came up as one of the daily prizes I don't think I would go for it because a) the population offer is not good, rolled with b) I don't much like the look of it (which is a very much subjective point, I know).

Edit - I've got the 200% sprout offer today... and it comes on the day of the magnificent mage multiplier, haha.

Yes, the offer was 24 hours, and a fellow told me last night so I refreshed the game and there was the offer.

The question I have is, can you still spin for daily prizes once you have the 3rd grand prize?

I have a fellow who is wondering.

I got the third grand prize a few days ago without paying. I collected nuts around my town, completed each daily quest and on sequential quest no.41. I have almost only opened 140 nuts for sprouts, only occasionally using 90 nuts for the daily prize. I was also fortunate to get some free nuts a few times too which helped. I haven't done the maths but I don't think I can get second grand prize within 15 days, a lot of the next quests are quite time consuming.

Also I found this website useful

You can still get daily prizes after the third grand prize, I got a daily prize on the day I got the third grand prize and the day after. apparently if you are near a new chapter wait before getting the prize, because it will increase once you complete advanced scouts of the new chapter.

I'm confused with what you are saying... You said you got the third grand prize already without paying, but you say that you think you can get the second grand prize within 15 days. I wonder if you meant you got the first grand prize without paying.

I don't know the answer, but it would be extremely harsh if they stopped you rolling for daily prizes just because you'd picked up all the grand prizes... If anyone's around that got all three on the sugarbeet quest they may have the (probable) answer.

I said I got the third grand prize without paying, but I don't think I can get the second within the time frame.

Edit: Sorry for confusion, to me the third grand prize is the 'worst' which is the third one (first prize you unlock)

That's what I figured. :)

Yeah, the first two are pretty easy, but it's the last one that needs a lot more sprouts than you can get if you finish everything, unless you do it using the double sprout days, as discussed.

I used my 100% coin refill to get the "Buy 16 kp" quest as my kp's are now over 200k each.
