Question Troops recovery spell

I must be missing something here but how on earth do you use this spell. I have tried a few times but just cannot get it

After the battle there's a screen with the outcome showing your left over troops. Under each slot is a diamond cost to replace them and an icon to use the recovery spell. Click the icon and it should bring up a list of all your recovery spells where you can select which one/s to use.
Assuming you have spells in stock?
