Could it be a shard for a Wonder you've not yet researched? Tooltip as you hover over the AW icon lists those.

Thanks! Found it there. Altho why they would reward me with a shard for the LAST Wonder in the list, when I haven't even completed one of the first 2, is beyond me.

I think I have shards for every Wonder that exists, and probably a couple they still thinking about
