Question Ranking points keep dropping

Hi! I really can't seem to understand what makes ranking points go up. I'm in Chapter 5 of the game, my city keeps growing, I scout new provinces, I update a lot of my buildings, I add new buildings and such from all the events. But every time I update something, my ranking points drop- they never go up. The way I'm going, I'm going to reach 0 eventually! I don't understand what I'm supposed to do- when I visit other people's cities who are further along, they seem to have few residences and workshops- they've just updated them so don't need more. So how come I'm updating things and constantly losing ranking points? Any advice would be great.

I think you are mixing up ranking and score.

Your score really only goes up, which puts you at a better rank-- lower is better, remember #1 is the best, so if your ranking "goes down" that's a good thing
