Answered Promotions and Army camps

What happens to existing units in the army camp when a miltary promotion is researched?
Let say I have 200 Axe Barbarians in my army camp and I research Axe Barbarian Promotion. Will my 200 units automatically be promoted, stay the same and I'll need to build the stronger ones from teh start or will they simply disappear?

All of your units that you already have will get that field promotion, when you complete the research.

That's why I trained a couple thousand of each troop before I activated the research.
2000 Treants II, for the price of 2000 Treant I.

Good thinking, the cost to train/build those troops will go up when they are promoted to Sergeant.
