Sorry, probably a daft question to those of you who have been playing some time, but what does it mean when somebody polishes your buildings or eggs etc. What do you gain from it, if anything?

The culture provided by that building is temporarily doubled. If you open a polished building, you can see how much culture does is provide now and how long will this effect last.

Also if you have an Enscrolled Endowment spell running on a culture building when it gets polished you get a culture bonus of 5%.

The higher your culture bonus the more supplies your workshops produce and the more gold your residences generate.

Visitor can also help with your main hall, in which case you’ll see coins icon above your main hall and you can collect that.
If your visitor helps your builders (Builder’s Hut), than time of your next construction or upgrade will be reduced by 10%.

If you make sure to return these visits, you’ll get not only gold, but also some supplies as a reward. All this is a bonus you get from the game, it doesn’t actually transfer gold or supplies between the cities. ;-)
