I just reached Fairies. Finally built Night Farm. Says Nightshade costs diamonds. In order to upgrade portal to level 3, one needs Nightshade.

Question: is there no other way to get it than diamonds?

Question: will further chapters be also stuck by this kind of requisites?

You never need to buy diamonds. Nightshade costs crystals. If you look at the wiki it will give you all the information you need. Just search fairies.

You can produce nightshade in your Night Farm. To produce it you don't need diamonds you need some crystal (the Crystal icon is blue and can be confused with diamonds )
You don't need diamonds to play the game, there are very few features that require them (=have no alternative solution) and you can earn diamonds in the Spire

You'll only ever get asked for diamonds if you are lacking the required resources... there is also an option on the settings to ensure you get a prompt before spending actual diamonds
