The current chat facility IMHO is barely adequate, and despite multiple requests and pleas over the years has remained unimproved.
Might I suggest that the activation message be changed in order to show when it is actually active, and ready for typing:
To be correct, the message should be, 'Click here and type'. It would avoid all sorts of inadvertent and annoying hot-key activations.
