Have a competition world where no trading or fellowships are allowed.
Players start with a set amount of resources and have a set amount of time to attain the highest score possible.
The set time could be a week or a day.
To ensure sensible game play, the city for each person would only be playable for 8 hours per 24 hours.
Hard core competition held monthly.
For example...
Competition starts, say it's a one day competition, so 24 hour timer starts.
Player enters world.
8 hour clock starts for their personal daily timer.
They start with 500k of each resource, if they enter a new age, they gain 500k of each applicable resource.
At the end of the competition players get various rewards on their normal world, and the competition world is reset to empty, but the high scores are kept. High scores are a reward of their own.
Players in the world would be able to see each others tactics and leading players would be entertainment too.
I'm thinking diamonds for rewards, 10 per hour played for each and every participant, up to several thousand diamonds for the winner.
