Question Army opening

How do I open all the army sections?. I only have 2 and struggling to win fights.. Sorry if this is an easy question

Master of the Elements
You have to complete researches in the main research tree. If you look ahead you should be able to see how far you need to go before the heavy melee, mage and heavy ranged troops appear.
