I may have missed something, but just in case I have not, why can't I zoom out of my world map. I have a very limited view without scrolling, which is beyond boring. I want to be able to see all of map; Advice is welcome if I've missed something.

You can change the zoom from 100%, down as low as you want. I have found 50% to be reasonably functional.

Just taking the opportunity to add, we do not recommend anything but 100% zoom for browser players. To zoom in or out in your city, use the controls in your personal settings in the game, behind the lower right cogwheel. This will allow the display to work as intended for gameplay.
The World Map is a bit different as Lelanya and Pauly7 have perfectly said.

Yeah reset to 100% when returning to your city, for sure. It's hard to read chat and things aren't in the right place.

Tks @Pauly7 - I'm normally set on 100% zoom, but just for fun I tried a 30% zoom to look at my world map, and whilst I could see the shape, I couldn't make out any details, so I'm back to 100%, but at least now I've seen my whole map. Thankyou

What about people like me who play using an app on a tablet? How can we zoom out of the world map?

The app does not have this provision, which is the same as the browser version (which means players wanting to do this need to manipulate the display with the device settings not the game settings). The reason for this is it not part of the game as there is no actual need to see the whole map for gameplay.

My only gripe with the zoom is when you initially load up a city and the darn thing zooms in on the Main Hall, occasionally to the maximum level. It can be difficult to 'zoom out' again without accidentally picking up some productions that you might not otherwise want to collect yet.
