I'm not sure exactly when this happened (I'm running v1.118.3-(d0b1fd0) - html5 (2020-11-27 12:27) - it's not mentioned in the Version Release Notes for 1.117 or 1.118 as far as I can see? - but I've just noticed, today, that the greenish colour overlay in the Research Menu has been removed from the browser as well as the mobile client, as mentioned above by @herodite ... so it's a big yay from me for the return of the original appearance...
