At the moment the relics are used to upgrade the wonders.
Why would you use your boosted relics for this? What are the other relics for?
Boosted relics allow your production to increase the other relics are wasted!

So how about being able to choose which relics are used in upgrading the wonders?
You need some level 1 relics (marble, steel & wood) some level 2 relics (crystal, scrolls & silk) and of course some level 3 relics (gems, dust & elixir) of which you should be able to choose from your stock how many of each. This can be done via a drop down menu after each relic until an appropriate number has been chosen.

What else can the relics be used for?
Upgrading other buildings?:D
Upgrading troop types?:)
Forging a new weapon?;)
Some magic or other?o_O
Gambling?

A dwarven casino where you can gamble your relics or use your gold to by more relics....
Where each upgrade adds a new game in your casino....other members of your fellowship or neighbors could visit and gamble too, but your stock would be the house limit. :D (well it's a twist on raiding your neighbors or GvG battles etc.)

Any suggestions for relic use?
Can they help after the end game is reached giving more purpose to the game?

Apart from the gambling bit, the idea seems interesting. Shouldn't this be in the ideas & suggestions thread instead?

Considering the new building they are adding where you use relics for spells, I expect we won't have any available for other things soon ;) I doubt they will add other options even for people who don't want to use them on spells, as that would make the spell thing redundant.

As for my opinion, I still think relics should have been bundled per fellowship, with your boosted goods increasing in 5 based on the total relevant relics your fellowship has. This would have kept them in their initial role as well as giving fellowships more of a purpose. AW could have been upgraded with goods as another player suggested. However, I cannot see any of that being changed either hehe.

There's going to be a new building for spells? Obviously the developers didn't run a poll about it as so far no one has voted for that

Like the idea of bundling relics in fellowship. As you say would give fellowship more purpose and relevance. Having a pool of relics that all members contribute to and can use....I'll add it to the poll :)

What's wrong with the gambling idea? It would be an alternative to trading and the players casino would be it's own source of income, no need to choose 9 hrs or a day, plus could add to culture?

See also the announcement here. Spells are live since yesterday's update to 0.35. They are available from the end of Chapter 1, and while building the Magic Academy does cost boosted Relics, this is a one-off cost, and then the spells themselves cost non-boosted Relics

Some nice ideas there for other uses of Relics Sir Prize :)

Here's my write up on the Magic Academy

So far only the supplies and goods spells are live.

The building resources are minimal.

Space 5x5

The nitty gritty
Supplies spell takes 16 hrs to make and costs 2 relics
Goods spell takes 1 day and 8 hrs and costs 4 relics

Your spell will only work on ONE unit - eg one workshop or one factory!

My advice to you is this:

Don't build it.
Use the 5x5 space for something more useful.

If you're part of a fellowship - you definitely shouldn't need the spell for goods. Could be useful for a solo player though.

You will need your relics in the future!
When you get further, you will build 4 other buildings that use relics for upgrades - martial monastery. crystal lighthouse, dwarven bulwark and mountain halls. You will need your relics for these but the benefits are permanent - not temporary.

As for this post - I would like to see trading of relics to help each other increase boosts.

Regards

Wolf

As a relatively new member, I would like to say that I have found the Magic Academy to be of great help. I currently have four workshops under a spell and the additional production is solving a problem. I have also just noticed that a new spell has been added which doubles the impact of neighbourly help on a cultural building. Perhaps when I've developed a City to rival some I've seen, my views may change, but for now, I am a fan of Magic,
Glumpy.
PS Can anyone tell me how visitors will recognise which Cultural building has been ensorcelled?

If the new spell is of similar duration, you won't be using it on an unpolished building, you will be using it on a building with at least 2 hours of polish effect left on it.

How about spell relics that can be cast and will support you during fighting an encounter specially the strong ones?... :)

I thought I'd finish the write up on the Magic Academy now that the spell for culture (that people denied the existence of) is live.

2 relics and 16 hours later - you will get a culture boost of 140 for 2 days on 1 item only - this one was for the Elder Dragon Oracle which is worth 2800 culture points.

Absolute pants.

3 for 3 - the spells waste relics and aren't worth the effort. Make the Magic Academy sellable!

Hmm. The info for the new spell has an error in it too:

5% is nowhere near double.
