You need to upgrade a T2 manufactory into the sentient chapter level. I think it must be a Crystal Manufactory that allows you to produce Obsidian.

Or trade for it in the trader with other sentient goods.

Thanks guys. Someone told me the as my T2 was scrolls, it would be silk so I have biul 2 of them. I will change them for crystal if that is the right one

Yes if your T2 boost is scrolls then your T5 boost is equivalent to scrolls +1, i.e Silk. I did think the silk manu would be producing Royal Velvet though. I could be wrong.

You don't necessarily need two of them. I would start off with one and see how you go for now.

yes you would build silk manu if you are a scrolls booster, they will produce royal velvet as Pauly said, then you take the royal velvet and trade that for the obsidian you are looking for
