Answered Not enough population for City requirements.

I've noticed I can build a Residence, add a building and then remove the Residence which then gives me not enough population for my city.
What effect does that have on my city?

a negative population only means that you can only build or upgrade things that don't require using more population like culture, more homes, portal buildings, or wonders. it can be a good tactic but be careful if you can't get a positive population quickly when you need it for important things like events when you will want plenty of workshops, sets of tier 1 factories, and buildings to upgrade easily.
