New Guest Race/Threat? - Sandworms and Sandworm Hunters

Sandworms have moved into your city... or, more properly, under it. Thankfully, the Hunters know how to capture and remove them.

Sandworms are creatures that are in the middle of their migration, and unfortunately, your city is in their migratory path. during their long trek, they pause for rest, and it is during this rest period that they are vulnerable. When resting, Sandworms occupy a number of contiguous squares of your city. You gain points for finding and removing sandworms from under your city.

The portal is the Base Station for coordinating reports and dispatching crews. New Sandworms are detected at semi-regular intervals, and those intervals are gradually decreased by upgrading the Base Station. However, upgrading the Base Station, while increasing the sensitivity of the equipment to find them more often, also means you can find smaller and deeper ones.

After building the Base Station, you can build Tracking Outposts. Technically, you can operate without Tracking Outposts, but they will speed up your operations. Tracking Outposts are not expendable, so can be retained throughout the level. When a new Sandworm is detected, each Tracking Station points in roughly the correct direction. The higher the upgrade level, the more precise the direction is. (The imprecision is determined for each Tracking Station. Three Tracking Stations in a row left to right indicating for a Sandworm directly to the right, each one might point higher or lower, not that all will point equally low). By placing a number of Tracking Stations around your city, you can narrow in on the location of the detected Sandworm.

Next, you can build Listening Posts. Again, technically, you can operate without Listening Posts, but they will speed up your operations. Listening Posts expire after detecting a Sandworm. Listening Posts report how close the nearest portion of a Sandworm is. Higher level Listening Posts have higher maximum ranges of operation.

Lastly, you build Hunter Excavations. Hunter Excavations are one-shot buildings - once built, they either capture a Sandworm or don't, they don't carry over in attempting to capture the next Sandworm. If built over a square occupied by a Sandworm, you will successfully catch it. If not, you don't. You can build as many Hunter Excavations as you want, but by utilizing the earlier buildings, you can narrow down your location.

Basically, this is an excuse to play Battleship in Elvenar. You sank my Battle-worm!

A fun side-effect is the need to keep moving buildings around in your city in order to search for the Sandworms as they pop up.
