Magic Academy - REMOVE RNG

Why is there a random option in the Magic Academy Mystical Object prizes? After grinding away and using hard-earned spell fragments and catalysts, and waiting ages to get the 'magic' 100 vision vapour, the MA grants a prize based on chance! I mean, is this an academy or a casino? :)

My suggestion is that players are given the choice to select which MA prize they would like to receive.

There is probably a good silly reason why the MA forces us to repeatedly receive rewards that are of little use. Sad to say, I am too disillusioned to listen to it in this instance. I feel there is enough mystical wonder elsewhere in the game without the MA playing Surprise Santa and placing another lump of coal in my stocking above the fireplace. :(

Good point!
What about a choice between rotating specific items and the mystery RNG reward which might give you diamonds. Or a (red) balloon :)

Yes @Silmaril and the way I hammer crafting in my city set up average 2 of those a month along with a lot of the other prizes, any change could take away that chance of 500 diamonds so again I say "Be careful what you wish for guy's"

That is one of my foundations for existence mate. :)

If we are going to fixate on diamonds, then merely remove them from the options. Let's see, I have received diamonds from the MA exactly zero times anyway. Or retain them as a diabolical temptation, and keep the RNG gods happy with the existing chance method. :p

I'm not fussed either way. Because a suggestion is simply an idea, and not a work order to implement change. :cool:

Truthfully, I hadn't given it any thought @Stucon. My messages are always English, but my non-English quote was directly from a (well-known) song that was being mentioned. Plus I provided the English translation, so maybe dodged a bullet! :)

Doesn't factorial come into play here? Decades ago maths which is now a bit foggy.

Edit: probably not, wrong maths! I think the odds of it would be 1/4 * 1/4 * 1/4 .... 8 times.

Wow, it's been so long, since I've had to do Semi-Pointless Math (tm), that I had to think for a tick to remember my phrase in the first place.

What are the odds of that happening?

Well, the odds that, out of 8 attempts, you would get 5 Seeds (25%) and 3 Mana (25%) are 0.25^5 * 0.25^3 * 8!/(3!*5!) = 0.000015 * 56 = 0.085%. Quite small.

But, really, that's not the right question to have asked.


You asked "What are the odds of that happening?", But what is the "that" that you are asking about?

Seeds are 25%, Mana are 25%. Is the fact that you got 5 Seeds and 3 Mana any more remarkable than if you had gotten 5 Mana and 3 Seeds? Or any other combination of Seeds and Mana? That has odds of (0.25 + 0.25)^8 = 0.39%

But really, you possibly would have asked that question regardless of what you got...
  • I got all Seeds and Mana, wow, what are the odds of that?
  • I got all Seeds, wow, what are the odds of that?
  • I got some Seeds, some Mana, and 50 Diamonds, wow, what are the odds of that?
  • I got all Portal Profits, wow, what are the odds of that?
  • I got all Diamonds of some form, wow, what are the odds of that?
  • I got all 50 Diamonds, wow what are the odds of that?
  • I got all 500 Diamonds, wow, what are the odds of that?
A better meta question, maybe, would have been, what were the odds that, seeing the outcome you got after 8 draws, you would ask "What are the odds of that?"

Now that would be some Semi-Pointless Math (tm)!
