Hi, anytime I place a granite mine, I get the message there is a road link message. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes. 
But it doesn’t need regular road, but the special one - tracks. You’ve researched them before you researched the granite mines. It goes like this: portal is connected to your main hall using usual road and granite mines and copper mines are connected to the portal using the special tracks. All of them are together at the same spot in the building menu.
