The Benefits of Tinlug, the Star Serpent - Rare Evolving Building

This lovely building has a Pet Food Boost that lasts for 60 hours when fed. When combined with the Timewarp Ancient Wonder, you are able to complete six rounds of the Tournament during the Pet Food's Boost duration. You will also receive Combining Catalysts whilst doing the Tournament. How often you receive them depends on the level of your Tinlug the Star Serpent.

You will get one Combining Catalyst at stage one, or two for every tenth Chest; then it builds slowly up. At stage ten (fully Evolved), you receive the bonus Combining Catalyst every 5th encounter. As an example, if you solve 20 Chests in each round of the Tournament, you will receive:

Each round 20 : 5 = 4 Combining Catalysts
For six rounds = 24 Combining Catalysts

To put this into better context, when you build any new Ancient Wonder, you will need just one Combining Catalyst; to upgrade it from level one to two, you will need two. To upgrade an Ancient Wonder to level twenty, you will need 20 Combining Catalysts.

If you are at a lower level, your Ancient Wonders are more likely at a lower level, too, and your Tournament is smaller because you have fewer Provinces unlocked. So even then, the Tinlug is a fabulous bonus as it is already helping you to get ahead.

When Ancient Wonders were improved earlier this year, the developers promised to create more accessible ways to obtain the resources for upgrading Ancient Wonders. The Tinlug the Star Serpent is just one part of these opportunities.

I wish the tournament 'provinces' tab had a reminder to feed Tinlug. I sometimes forget, until I've already done a few provinces and begin wondering where my CC rewards have gone.

This would be ideal, I regularly forget to feed mine. I would like a similar reminder for the Cauldron too, another thing I regularly forget to do.

Like all of these buildings I guess Inno considers them Rare because they have to become available for crafting in the MA or be won in a one off Event. You had to be around to play that Event and collect a decent number of artefacts to upgrade it otherwise it's going to take you an eternity waiting and a fortune in Diamonds to craft all those artefacts in the MA.

Ah so by that token all evolving buildings are "rare evolving buildings". I think one must be rare compared to others. If we called it a "rare building", that would be OK.

I have this beauty maxed on Felyndral with a healthy CC balance and, after a break from Arendyl and Winyandor, really noticed his absence when I picked up again with those 2 cities. I was constantly chasing CCs and it's a little better now, but Inno nixed our artefact progress with changes to the Spire bang in the middle of the cycle to get them.
I had 3 on one and 4 on the other and happily thought I was on the way to maxing him before time ran out. Then came the changes and the chance to get the arty was dropped to the bottom of the list of ten ? prizes. After that, for the next 4 weeks I didn't get a single other arty. 'Fuming' doesn't cover it. Thanks, devs... thanks very much.
Now it's a loooong wait for it to cycle back around, and the alternative is using BPs in the crafting IF it goes in there. I spent 4 years crafting Phoenix arties and then bear arties (which I'm still not finished with), but Tinlug is going to be a priority.
Then came Solunar Nexus as Spire arties which is pointless compared to Tinlug, and I'll never place it, but I've done superbly for arties from the Spire for that. Good for 2000 spell frags, though...

I've never really understood how and when artefacts appear for crafting in the MA. My personal nemesis is Steam Golem. This was the one event that I dropped out for completely... Then I wanted it. When it came around in the Spire I think I won about 4 or 5. Since then (a long time) I have been watching the MA like a hawk. I have now been able to craft two extra artefacts and they were about 6 months apart.

P.s. My Golem is level 8 now. It has felt like a very long slog (maybe 18 months) to get it this far... considering it isn't even very good!

...that will never happen, because there are more Evos in a year than artifact cycles in the spire...we need artifact tomes in the spire to choose what we really need - artifacts and base plates have to get out of the crafting - we need an easier and cheaper way to get what we're missing...

...those buildings are no help, if most people can't evolve them to level 10...

...to all who need more CCs: watch out of the upcoming Christmas shuffleboard event and take care to get all of these tiny buildings from the boards - you can sell them for CCs....

The whole idea to give artefacts as Spire prizes was broken from the get-go. For most regular players they are useless most of the time. Then occasionally there is one you really do want, which you waited months for... And you can't win enough of them. The perception of the Spire has diminished since they removed the Library set, for sure.

So yes, agreeing with @Romilly too. They haven't yet managed to figure out one realistic way of distributing new artefacts and all they have done in the process is broken the Spire a little bit and broken the crafting rotations a little bit. Yes, I did find two of the Steam Golem artefacts that I needed to craft, but those two took 6 months to appear, they cost me 6 blueprints, and I still need 2 more. That is not realistic and doesn't justify clogging up the rotations.

Trashing Artefacts for Spell Fragments is fine but these days I see artefacts come around that I do want and wouldn't you know it, they need those very artefacts I trashed (or others I don't yet have) to make the damned thing. So now I save my artefacts up for that rainy day and they just clog up my Inventory. Like most I am waiting for certain artefacts in the Spire or the MA. Thankfully these seem to come around with reasonable frequency (still collecting for 11 Buildings/Pets across 3 cities). My golden rule now is not to place a new Building or Pet unless I have a reasonable number of Artefacts from the Event which spawned it.
