I think it would be a cool and fun/usefull idea to have a population boost. Taking into consideration humans/elves reproduce. Could be an addition, perhaps for time(every so many months etc.) or basic population. Not something that would disbalance the game play . Just something to look forward to. Not only more buildings.

So, your population grows over time, and where will they live?

Or, in reverse, when you build new or upgrade existing residences and your population increases, where do you think all the new residents came from? Elvenar: Field of Dreams. "If you build it, they will come."
