Changes to the Spire rewards

Hekata

Sage
I've just found this bit of news on Beta Discord:

Following up on the feedback we've received recently on the amount of Tomes of Spirit Flowers given out in the Spire of Eternity, we would like to replace them for other rewards in small encounters (1&2):
  • Introduction of two new Tomes (10% chance):
    • Tome of Magical Enchantments:
      • 1x Power of Provision
      • 1x Ensorcelled Endowment
      • 1x Magical Manufacturing
      • 1x Inspiring Meditation
    • Tome of Regiment and Diplomacy
      • 1x Light Melee Regiment (5 squads)
      • 1x Light Ranged Regiment (5 squads)
      • 1x Mage Regiment (5 squads)
      • 1x Heavy Melee Regiment (5 squads)
      • 1x Heavy Ranged Regiment (5 squads)
      • 1x Spectral Stone
  • Combining Catalysts (2x at 10% chance) will be available as encounter rewards, in addition to Fellowship rewards and Mystery Chests. This raises the current weekly average of CCs after 3 completed stages from 28,7 to 31,1.
  • The amount of Time Reduction Instants will also increased by 2x 2h Time Instants (10% chance).
These changes will only go live on Beta next Tuesday, October 1st but we wanted to inform you ahead of the new Spire, starting on Sunday.

I will be happier when tomes are abolished. Well, it's better having this variation rather than all the pointless flowers, but still. I don't really want random tomes that might give me an EE spell. I like them, but I rely on having several hundred at a time, so sitting there and opening tomes for 1 extra is still just dull.

I agree @Pauly7. The game should adjust the quantities, according to a player's current research chapter. The game demands millions of goods and resources for tournament. spire, and research. It could at least reward us accordingly. OK, I want too much again @Jake65. :p

...The flowers are not pointless - at least not if you play with a high culture bonus and go shopping for goods...

Not entirely pointless for me because I think they're pretty, but I never place them for their benefit, so I don't replace them and don't need any more.

yes but i dont even know why you all thinks that its some requirement to make the whole spire. I mean even the new animal? is only good if you stops where your trops still can win and not bargaining with the higher levels, to go into the negative balance. Same with tournament, you not do the tournement bargaining if it stops your progress in your city. You shouldn't make more than 10 province. The secret, is not wanting everything. Its also true we can be grateful for having enough supply and coin spells XD they make me feel safe...

I agree too @Pauly7 … flowers gone is a big YAY… but more tomes- kill me now
The flowers aren't gone completely, just reduced (I don't really care but appreciate some people like them). And what's wrong with tomes? They mean you get to choose what you need instead of having something useless foisted on you. (Of course that assumes they contain something that's useful in the first place.) Isn't more choice a good thing?

90% of it is useless, or at least close to pointless (see the one with 1 x EE as a prize). So I can't be bothered opening them... Or maybe I FEEL like I should wait in case one of those things becomes useful in the future. Then I have a bunch of unopened tomes somewhere that melt into the background of anonymity. It plays with my sense of OCD. I would rather all my useless junk is in one place.

I don't want everything
...neither do I - the secret is: make everything to mass-production - regardless of whether they are gold, supplies, goods or troops and you have everything you want...

...how can you make everything mass-produced? - well, that's the question you have to answer by making wise decisions on your way through the chapters...

...my teammate once said: if it doesn't eats bread, you can hoard it...

That's an issue with the content, not with tomes as a concept. The concept is having the ability to choose something that will be useful to people's particular playing style, or their needs in a specific chapter. They are a great addition to the game. (Now can we have PPs and coin rains put in one, along with something I actually need.)

As for the enchantment tomes - I'm seeing instant hats during FAs between tournaments.

I know that, rationally, choice should be good, but I think this only really applies to when there are things worth choosing between. It makes sense when there is a choice of different artefacts. It would make sense if there is something juicy like a blueprint or some Royal Restorations and you just, straight up, pick the one that excites you.

But the fact is, as I mentioned, the vast majority of these tomes are giving you the choice of a particular type of flower, a choice of rune shard, a single enchantment, or a coin rain or a supplies instant. Things that you figure it's possible you may want at some point in the future, but all things that you already have a ton of. So the best course of action is to leave them all unopened for a rainy day. This leads to that thing that bugs me, which is having a second repository of trash and it's not even easily visible what you do have without opening them up one by one each time, to have a look.

To me it just feels untidy and I don't like it. Obviously I can solve it for myself, though, by always opening them as I receive them anyway. In fact I think I'm gonna go open them all now.

Like in the Tome of Magical Foundations?

They may be things that you already have a ton of, but many players in earlier chapters won't. And the things you mention here make up only a small proportion of the tomes available across the game, they are not the vast majority. (You might end up with more of them because they're offered more frequently, but that's a different argument.) I'm sure we've all got tomes in our inventory we think are pointless (bear totems? really?) but that doesn't mean the whole concept should be abolished.
