It would be good to have also option to buy knowledge points for supplies. Sometimes we have a lot of supplies but we lack coins.

Supplies can be exchanged for goods which can be exchanged for KP. Sure the exchange rate is abysmal, but it can be done. If your supplies are constantly nearing the cap and you have nothing to spend them on, (orcs, goods, and troops) you may have too many workshops and should consider replacing some.

Not a good answer @TheokGrundor, Supplies can only be exchanged for nonboosted Goods, while only Boosted Goods can be exchanged for KP. Turning Supplies into boosted Goods requires Coins as well.
