Answered Away from the game for 2 years - what’s happening with tournaments?

I started playing in 2018 and have just returned from a 2-year hiatus. I gather that significant changes have been made to tournaments. Can anyone give me a brief overview please? Have the mechanics of the tournaments changed dramatically, or is it just the rewards that have changed? I played a few provinces last week but wasn’t paying enough attention and didn’t make a note of the rewards on offer. Tournaments were so routine for me, I just cranked out 14 provinces to 5 stars without really looking at what was happening, if you see what I mean.

There used to be a great Google Sheets tournament rewards calculator but I guess that’s redundant now? It was from the Gems of Knowledge website. Sad to see that’s gone.

If Elven Architect ever becomes defunct, I think I’ll have to permanently retire my city. I can’t handle replanning without EA, my nerves aren’t strong enough.

Yes, the cost structure was changed as were the rewards. I will take a look around for the Announcement and Feedback thread, but I warn you, it will be a long one, as will the News from Beta on this topic.

It's wonderful to see someone returning to their Journey!!! The links @Lelanya has provided should be all you need to know, although there have been a few other changes aside from the Tournaments as well!

Thanks for the link. This thread is from before I joined the forum, interesting to read it now.
Lots of comments about the change to the tournament relics. We survived the change nonetheless so there's probably a lesson there

Hmm, I started playing in 2018 as well. Off-hand can think of all the tournament changes since then, but a bit more trickier to say what changed in the past 2 years. I always admire Lelanya for her vast knowledge of the game and ability to point us tto where to look.

...that was a good change - my baby city here has marble as bonus, but I only made it into the tournament at steel - thanks to the changes I didn't have to wait 9 weeks for the next marble tournament (or 8 weeks till gems tournament)...not everything that was complained about was bad ...
