Dear Humans and Elves,

Please use this thread to discuss the upcoming Winter Magic event that'll start on December 5th.

We're looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Happy Holidays,
Your Elvenar Team

From the looks of it in beta, the only thing we can do is expect nothing and try to get at least something useful from the event. Thanks for the relaxed holidays, I guess? Probably it will be the same as the crafting challenges. It's always better to gain some extra stuff for doing nothing outside of your usual routine, but I don't know anyone who gets excited about it. And I was hoping to put a lot of effort and get extra several thousands of KP for my wonders. Oh well...

If the beta is any indication, Inno managed to severely screw up the reward system.
Will reserve final judgement, of course.

There is good and not so good here:

From what I have seen in the lists, I quite like the way the quests are designed this time. No need to litter your city with a multitude of L1 trash but also not requiring and tying up high level WS and Factories.

On the presents: I can see how it wont be possible to stock up on particular things but I found this getting ridiculous already. Of course I also participated in Wishing Well and Speed Up Instant Hoarding but having several hundred 8h and 14h instants kinda devalues the joy of getting them.
For me this is a chance to be less frantic and tone down the overall pace of my game. Woodelves is pretty anyway.

The grand prize. Uff. No comment. But there is one and only one, which I personally find a good thing.

Overall I'm carefully optimistic. And I am happy that there is no reason to rush and power-play the event.

Well, I suppose everything will depend on how much of an impact these changes

Hi everyone!

Just to let you know: At the moment we see that the amounts of Red Ribbons players are getting on Beta are lower than anticipated. While changes won't be possible on Beta anymore without the risk of breaking things, we have some changes planned for the Live release of this event, including reducing the number of quests before hitting the bonus segment while at the same time giving out more Red Ribbons per quest reward (so basically it will come down to getting about the same amount of Red Ribbons for the entire basic questline as on Beta, but with less quests. So players on Live will get Red Ribbons faster and with less work and they'll end up with more "bonus time" for the bonus segment, therefore being able to acquire more Red Ribbons during the total duration of the event.)

We also agree with you on the number of similar types of quests and will simultaneoulsy make some changes there, to make the quests more worthwile and less tedious.

We'd like to once again thank you for sharing all your feedback and suggestions for improvement. It really helped us a lot in the balancing of this event and although some suggestion weren't possible to implement in the short timeframe we had, it did help us gain insight in what you would like to see for future events.

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

will have. Personally I hope they won't be enough to save the day, because I absolutely loathe the casino system, and low participation/investment on the players' part will mean they'll be more likely to revert to the previous format and drop the lottery nonsense.

Aside from that, the usual stuff: the new buildings are pretty, so props to the art team (except for the Grand Prize, good thing it's so mediocre I'd probably not want it in my town even should I somehow manage to get enough artifacts to upgrade it to level 10, which I'll very likely won't) - but perhaps there are too few of them and too many recycled ones, many of which available through the MA, which further makes them less special.

Last but not least, the nerfed daily prizes coupled with the lottery system will mean Santa will bring us coal this year. Evidently we've been bad kids and the Sins of the Devs shall be visited upon us, hopefully not for three or four more events.

Can I make a productive suggestion please? Reading in the Beta Forum it appears many people have had issues with the 2x Prize. It seems to me that if I understand it correctly the 2x Prize doesn't really give a prize, it just defers your prize to the next choice - but then if the 2x Prize isn't used by the end of the day then the 2x Prize is simply lost rather than carrying over? Is that right? So if you win that but then can't afford another pick then you simply lose out.

If the 2x Prize awarded 50 ribbons when it was selected (like the Refresh does) then that would mean whenever you got it you could always pick another choice so you would genuinely win a double-prize from the original ribbons (rather than defer a prize) and there would be no reason for the 2x to expire at the end of the day.

I hope this makes sense.

There is also the same type of issue with revealing 2 prizes, if you get this and it shows 2 prizes and you really wanted one of them but didn't have the ribbons at the end of the day then the prize will be gone the following day.

Considering the last event I'm actually afraid a little. We may very well again end up with the amount of WS quests lowered if favor of harder quests.
Perhaps, but with the Grand Prize being worthless and the daily prizes both heavily nerfed and gated behind a nonsensical scratch-lottery system one can't stategize for, I find it rather hard to actually care to be entirely honest. As a matter of fact my only hope is that this event will fail so miserably as to convince whoever makes decisions to scrap this gamble-centric system and revert to the old one, though I won't be holding my breath.

"Just to let you know: At the moment we see that the amounts of Red Ribbons players are getting on Beta are lower than anticipated."

That phrasing is very odd. Since it is completely determined how many ribbons player get for the quests, the actual meaning seems to be: Players in Beta cannot be arsed to invest the time and effort required to do the quests necessary to get the prizes. In which case readjusting ribbons/quest is barely addressing a symptom and very much ignoring the cause.

However, I have to say that this time around there seems to be much more response and dialog from the Devs to actually improve the situation and make things more enjoyable. Much better than the "Eat or Die" approach in the beta phase of the previous Event. Compliments for that.

Sorry, for self quote.

Now that I can see the Event with my own eyes, maybe, just maybe the requirements for the production quests are so ludicrous that people just CAN'T finish quests faster?

In woodelves, the rather modest "fair" amount of supplies requires between 8-10 fully upgraded Workshops producing Basket of Groceries (9 Hours). I can only guess but it stands to reason that large, huge etc. amounts may take up to a day to finish. Same with T1/T2/T3 goods.

Now, judging from the beta forum, one major complaint was back to back produce supply quests. Combining that with the ridiculous effort required to do the supply quest gives you: * drumroll * A whole buttload of unhappy players.

PS: Does anybody know on what the exact numbers for the "Produce X amount" are based? Chapter? Provinces? Mainhall? Average shoe-size of the Devs?

PPS: If you have a low chapter city somewhere between Chapter 2 and Chapter 4, do yourself a favor and ignore the whole thing.

It's taken a little while to put it together but I've finally concluded that the designers have in fact been very kind and this event is in fact their very clever response to our recent complaints about the almost continuous series of events and activities, and the need for an occasional break.

So they've given us an event that we can just ignore completely if we want to, or at least not make any major efforts, with less risk of FOMO; anyone who wants, can participate, anyone who feels the need of some downtime can happily take it.

I've skipped the event completely in Beta (based on early feedback), didn't even collect the evolving building, and the only pretty little ribbon that I've collected is one I stumbled over while traversing ... they look so lovely that I'm leaving them around to decorate my Winter city :)

Haven't regretted the choice, been happily city-building meanwhile, and will do mostly the same on live ... may indulge in curiosity (watch out, pussycat) and tinker with it in one world until I lose interest, then again, maybe not.

So, thank you so much Inno, for an early Christmas present ... time to devote to whatever I want or need to do, at what is always a quite busy time of year.
Merry Christmas to you all! :)

How do we know the number of hammers we will get when opening a present? Is that also random?

It's based strictly on chapter, but the amounts differ based on quest segment (quests later on will require more stuff for the same wording).

It's always 1 hammer per present, unless x2 is active (then it's 2). Converting a single hammer to bricks yields 1, 2 or 3 bricks randomly.

Ok, so another random thing to add to this lottery event. It is hugely unfair imo. It basically means that for the same amount of ribbons some players will get a whole grand prize and others maybe 1/2 of the grand prize. And in the long run it can make a big difference on how many grand prizes one gets. With the previous system it was up to us to decide how much "pieces" we will get depending on how much currency we want to spend.
