Are They Making the Tournaments Harder?

If I can accurately predict the number of troops you will face in every scenario, either it is not random, or I'm God. Your pick.

Do you need me to believe you or would you like to share how you do it? I'd love to know how you can predict the enemy stacks for the four fights in a province before that province opens up for you.

I gotta be honest, it feels like you're trolling me.

Soggy: "This is how it works"
Angel: "I think there's a random element"
Soggy: "Nothing random, here is the formula that the game uses to decide the number of troops"
Angel: "Sounds random to me"

I'm sorry @CleverAngel777, but for my own mental health I think I need to stop responding to your posts:rolleyes:

I'm sorry if it upset you that much. I was happy to stop number of times till you brought in more discussion topics.
Take care of yourself

The formula is as I stated previously:

Enemy squad size = (round bonus * province number/20)* stack adjustment

round 1= 0.85
round 2=1.00
round 3=1.15
round 4=1.30
round 5=1.45
round 6=1.60

enemy has 4 stacks = 0.96
enemy has 5 stacks = 1.00
enemy has 6 stacks = 1.047
enemy has 7 stacks = 1.098
enemy has 8 stacks = 1.137

Rocket Science!
Have a nice day

i think angel and soggy both made this waaaay more complicated than it needed to be:eek: i wonder if maybe either of them is a lawyer or a politician?
ok, just kidding.:D
for the most part, i agree w/ soggy. skipping those optional squad sizes seems better for me because i do fight a lot in tournaments and i think that's best for most people.
angel has a point that if someone fights more in regular encounters, then they can be better off getting those squad size upgrades.
the tough question is if whether we fight and lose troops more in tournaments or in regular encounters.
i think tournaments are very rewarding. most people should do a lot in them to benefit their cities. building and upgrading combat wonders is very useful because fighting is usually much more efficient than catering. i think Jack has a video about catering vs. fighting somewhere on youtube or at "gems".

In the world provinces, you use 100% of your squad size so every lost battle is harder to replace than any battle in provinces no 20 and lower in the tournament.

I actually cater the world provinces that’s why I like squad size upgrades as they reduce my catering costs (not for already scouted provinces, only for not yet scouted provinces). My current provinces are blue – very easy.

PS I was a Chartered Accountant and now I make money trading futures. That could explain some things :D

No, they don't.
I know I said I wouldn't respond anymore to your posts, but the negotiating costs on the world map have zero connection to your squad size, sorry.

I've done many things over the years, but I think the more relevant ones are teaching and running a casino.:p
You'd think I'd do a better job at explaining math, but I guess not.

Based on my research so far, the catering costs are related to the difficulty of the battle. The more difficult the battle, the higher catering costs. The more difficult means the higher the enemy squad in relation to your squad size available in that battle.

Of course, I could be completely wrong and when I'm proven wrong, I'll happily admit that and will thank you for providing helpful information. :)

To be perfectly clear, I was talking about the world map negotiating since you said that you think that increasing your SS help you there, and it does not.

On the world map the number of troops you face, and the negotiating costs of those encounters is determined solely by the cost to scout that province.
The methodology I used to test this after the devs stated this was the case on both the US and Beta Forums was to have
2 cities at the same number of scouted provinces, and SS techs.
City #1 scouted the next province
City # 2 completed research and activated an SS, and then scouted
The troops faced by each city and the negotiating costs were the same.

Feel free to test it yourself, or send a ticket to support asking.

I found this statement on elvengems:
"The cost of the scout also determines the price of negotiations, and the difficulty of the battles if you choose to fight."

Btw, I skipped almost every possible squad size upgrade (squad size 2295 at the end of Amuni) and my provinces are blue, too. IMO, there are too many mandatory squad size upgrades in the last few chapters.

This is about world provinces and must not be confused with tournament provinces.

Researching all squad size upgrades
  • makes world map fights easier
  • has no impact on world map negotiation cost
  • makes tournament fights more expensive
  • makes tournament catering more expensive

Can you please give me something so I can test it in my city. Sorry, but I got burnt couple of times by using other people's information and I want to make sure that other players get correct advice. I've read through other related posts and I haven't find a conclusive information, a link would be really useful too.

much easier to just post a simple question in the questions and help section and trust an answer you get from a moderator or check out the websites.

I found this post by @Dizzy Lizzie, but cannot quote it

If the province has already been opened, the costs do not go down as the negotiation costs are based on how much you paid to open the province. But if you open a new province after completing Advanced Scouts then the cost of opening it plus the cost of negotiation will be decreased.

Advanced Scouts= reduce negotiation costs
Squad Size Upgrades = do not reduce negotiation costs

Squad size upgrades do not reduce negotiation costs of a province encounter!

I think this can be tested simply by checking the catering costs of a province (but not yet catering) and then doing an SS research and checking the costs again. Since it is the exact same province you are comparing before and after an SS research you will be sure and you won't need a second city to make the comparison :p

I did. I told you the exact methodology used.
1. Pick a server
2. Make 2 identical cities

When you reach an SS tech
3. In city #1 scout a province
4. In city #2 research an SS tech, and then scout the same province.

5. Compare provinces

Should take less than an hour.

I have no problem testing and verifying things, but if you don't believe my results, it is up to you to put in the work and test it yourself-- why would I do it again?

Now, I'm fully confused :(

Also, this doesn't change the fact that whatever your squad size is, you will hit a wall on the same spot because the enemies will get stronger than your troops so the rest of my post is still valid.

Every next round enemy sq size is growing, while yours isn't, that's why each next tourney round becomes more harder (more losses)

If you research a sq size tech, your sq size becomes bigger, but tournament wont get easier, because tournament round difficulty is in % from your actual sq size. If your sq size grows, that means enemy sq size is growing too.

If your sq size has grown you will only need more units = doing sq size upgrades makes tourney harder.

SS upgrades help with fights on map ....who the f fights on map? you train troops 24/7 for tourney and you negotiate map :)

people talk, that over scouting makes your tournament more difficult...
do you have any formula on this one?
im just curious, not that its bothering me, but would be nice to see the numbers.

The number is zero.
Scouting has zero effect on the tournament. A couple of years ago tournaments were based on completed provinces much as they are on SS now, but that changed long ago.
